Methotrexate is a chemical that may induce a medical abortion.
Methotrexate has been used very succesfully to treat tubal or ectopic pregnancies. Prior to the advent of the use of methotrexate, most tubal pregnancies required surgery. Presently, the vast majority of tubal pregnancies that are found can be treated with a coarse of Methotrexate. Sparing women the need for surgery on the delicate fallopian tubes.
